Beaches in Roundstone

Dogs Bay:
Is between Errisbeg and Murvey. Its original name was Port na Feadige Bay of Plovers. In 1990, during a storm, a prehistoric settlement was unveiled. The Archaeologists found an ancient wall covering an oval shaped house and a series of pits containing organic remains. They also discovered a skaill knife and a limestone blade possibly used for butchering and cutting up animals which may date back to about 4000 B.C. Animal bones and fish shells were found, but no pottery has turned up, so the people who lived there were from the early Christian times. Dogs Bay is a beautiful curving bay with a mile long stretch of clear white sand made from shells. Itís a beach that is very safe and free from currents.

Gurteen Bay:
Set back-to-back with Dogs Bay and filled with the clearest Atlantic water, that can be enjoyed for swimming and almost every type of aquatic sports. The sand is pure white, as it is not formed of quartz but of shells exclusively. These beaches are a real pleasure just to walk along and be in tune with nature, with its sea bird life and Fauna.
