Roundstone Pony Show;
Another update on the forth-coming pony show for the year 2006.

The first meeting was held last Tuesday, the priority of the meeting was to elect a committee for the future Roundstone Connemara Pony Show, which was duly done with Paddy (The yank) McDonagh as chairman, Neil McKay as Treasurer, and Richard de Stacpoole as Secretary with Members: Caillín & Martina Conneely, Pat and Damien Connolly, Mary McDonagh, Martin J. Conneely, John Luskin, Eamon Hannon and Pat Mullen, talking about Pat Mullen and Caillín we should congratulate them as they were elected on to the council of the Connemara Pony Breeders Society yesterday at the AGM in Galway, and as Caillín said in his opening speech at the AGM, young blood is needed and he and his familly have been invovled in ponys all his life, as well as Pat has which went down very well, so now there is a strong voice in our area and its a bonus to have two Roundstone people for the first time, actually,a point of interest here, Caillín is the youngest member to be elected on to the council since 1923. So congratulations lads, I am sure you both will have a lot to contribute for the future.

The appeal for the return of any old perpetual cups is just beginning to come to fruition, our thanks by the way to Henry O’Toole for his cup that he won in 1992 in the yearling class.

We do have two possible dates for the show either the 25th June or the 9th July 2006, it will all depend on the listings of other shows around the county so that there will be no clashes.

A donkey class is hoped to be continued, perhaps there is some one out there that might like to sponsor this class

We will be looking for sponsorship of any sort, for the classes or for programmes, or the dog show etc.

As I said before we will keep the updates on the radio as well as the website, www.roundstone-connemara.com

Clár: Fair Green
Stage 2 with a maximum cost of €40,000 for the project of the fair green funding has come through for faze 2 of the project, with thanks to Éamon Ó Cuív who as you know is Minister for Community and Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs he has allocated €19’000 under Clár for the 05/07 Local authority Housing Estate Enhancement Scheme for Clár areas which works with the local authorities to co-fund the scheme on to a € to € basis with a 5% local contribution.

Mink Storey:
Another mink disaster storey, it happened to yours truly, it’s a serious one about a week ago I found all this years chicks slaughtered one morning, I actually thought my terrier had done the business, because the evening before I had let him out of his Kennel to have a pee, he shot out baking and running around the pens to the extent I had trouble in calling him back, thought nothing about it at the time, then the next morning I found all the chicks dead, five days later in the other pen where I have all the laying hens, as I normally do I went out to feed them and yet again 10 of my good hens slaughtered all the hall marks of the mink, the bastards left me with two, what is interesting one of the hens I could not account for for the lost hen it must have been dragged off, if so, how in hell did it get out of the pen with its prey. If something is not done people like me that have fresh duck and hen eggs will have to give up having birds, and go back to those other dreadful eggs.

Tidy Towns;

Category b 227.

Last year we had a score of 221 so we are up by 6 points. Spidéal pipped us with 232, but we did come fourth out in the B category for the Galway area out of nine entrants, the B category is a population from 201 to a 1’000, I have a feeling that these extra points came in the landscape area, and I am talking about around the cottages and the fair green area, so the FAS lads with their supervisor Donal Nee played a big part in this project so they can give themselves a pat on the back, and was also helped by the church grounds, well done Father McCarthy, any way hopefully the year 2006 will push us further up the ladder. I received the constructive comments from the Tidy Towns Adjudication report of where we could improve on our village for the year 2006, therefore there will be a public meeting at the Roundstone House Hotel next Sunday after mass to go through these comments and work out a plan during the winter to improve on our situation.

Roundstone Musical Instruments:
The National Galway hospice collection day which was held last Thursday, with the annual coffee Morning held in Malachy Bodhrans shop, raised a healthy sum of €500. So well done everybody who attended the morning, and supported this truly worthy cause.

Junior Certs:
A finally well done to our seven young people in Roundstone on passing their Junior Cert, there were some very high marks.

In fact well done to all those in Connemara that passed.Onwards and forward troops

Diamuth Vaughan:
And finally just to wish happy birthday to Diamuth Vaughan who celebrated his birthday on Saturday and also to Martin Connelly who celebrated his yesterday, so there you are lad’s Happy birthday.
