Roundstone News from Ann Conneely 30th October 2006
Preparations are underway in the village for an influx of Rugby players and fans 200 in all from Portadown Northern Ireland next weekend. They will be playing the Connemara All Blacks next Saturday. This is the first time that Roundstone has had the opportunity of accommodate a visiting team so it is rather exciting. The people responsible for this are David Jameson and his wife Helen who will be hosting the weekend. Helen & David spend all the holidays here in Roundstone and have been coming to this area for up to 40 years. I think that would give those 99% Roundstone status. I would also like to thank them for their generosity over the years; they have always been one of our main sponcers in many events. I.e. Arts week, regatta, pony show and many many more.
Halloween mask
A workshop was held in the Roundstone library for the Halloween mask making on Friday which was very well attended.
(Here are some photos of the kids)
Eldon’s Hotel
Is having a Halloween party Tuesday between 4pm and 6pm for the children and everyone is invited
I am sure that this will be followed by an onslaught of trick or treat’s through out the village so my advice is stock up well.
Your Pets
Please take care of your animals at this time of year because of fireworks and bangers going off. The guards are keeping a close watch for the fireworks but plenty of them seem to always get through.
It is best to take your dog, and cat inside and if you have horses move them to distant safe place.
The youth club
Re-opened their doors once again after the summer break. There were a few new entrances, lots of last years still on the list and Katrina Kane has returned as a female leader this year with Geraldine Coyne and Richard de Stacpoole.
Youth Chairman for this year is Joseph Mannion, Lisa Coyne Secretary with Cathal Mullen as Treasurer, with PRO officers Michael O’Sullivan and Brian Mc Donagh.
Richard will be bringing you an update next Monday and we may hear what he has in the pipeline for them this coming year and if they will be travelling.
The Roundstone gun club
Held a vermin shoot over this week-end 8 guns, went off in pairs. Shot magpies and grey crows, this campaign is to protect the new pheasants whish are with various people in the Roundstone area.

Sponsored walk:
Which was in aid of the children’s playground, the amount raised was €1295.
Thomas Griffen raised €200 which was the highest amount, earning him a dinner for 4 which was donated by the Ardilaun Hotel Galway.
I also heard that Thomas’s costume stole the show at the Adult Halloween party which was held last night in the Shamrock Bar.
The Shamrock Bar hosted a coffee morning after mass yesterday in aid of the Play group the amount raised was €435
Altogether the group has raised €10,500.00.
They asked me to thank the girls from Eldons who have donated €300 and this was an amount raised at the poker game which is held in Eldons each Friday night and each player gives €1 towards the playground.
