Roundstone News 8th November 04

Well we have certainly got very quite in Roundstone, not long ago I was looking forward to the peace and quite, now I am not so sure, well at least there was a furniture sale in the Community hall over the weekend, which surprisingly brought a lot of people out, so there was a bit of movement around and about this weekend.

Youth Club:

Thanks goodness in some ways I have the youth club to keep me active, on Saturday the youth members went up to the Pallis Go-Karting in Loughrea, which was a lot of fun and my goodness these guys and girls I might add are very competitive, anyway it was a grand Prix race, Cahill Nee was the overall winner, second was Chris McDonagh and third was Michael Sullivan. Then back into Galway for the rest of the day. A nice day all round

Eldons Hotel:

Roundstone is possibly coming to a cross roads as to its future, what with the closure of Eldons Hotel and the retirement of Anne Conneely from the Hotel world.
Anne hopefully will try to lease Eldons and perhaps if this becomes a reality the said person or persons might think about keeping the hotel open all the year around, which in my opinion would be the ultimate answer, Roundstone really needs a hotel to stay open all the year round
At the end of the day whatever Anne decides it is her choice, Anne has spent twenty-eight years in the world as an hotelier and restaurateur and reared a family and feels now she needs a life of her own, with family quality time.
Talking to Anne today, I got a little history of Eldons and Beola, Beola was a shop first of all owned by Bridget Clogherty, eventually sold and turned into a restaurant under the banner of a certain Spillane for one year then Michael Ferron and Sean de Courcey took over and started a fish and chip shop, then eventually Anne and Joe came on the scene and has been on going for the last twenty eight years, looking back there was a stage in my life when I was at a loose end for a couple of seasons, so decided to work in the restaurant, as dinning room management was what I was trained for, and I remember the fun Anne and I had, running up and down the streets, diving into the pubs and encouraging our visiting friends, almost to the extent of bribing them to eat at Beola, it was hard work for the both of us, but my god we had a lot of fun, and we have remained friends ever since.
Anyway Ann you deserve a break, so now you can get a life and continue with the fun.

Tidy Towns:
Some months ago the Tidy town Committee applied for an Amenity Grant to help us in our progress in the tidying up the village, well just a few days ago, Ann Conneely who is chairperson of the tidy Town Committee received a letter from the Galway County Council, from the Community and Enterprise section saying that they have provisionally allocated a grant of 2 500, to us which is most helpful, as like all projects there were some expenses for 2004, so now this years expenses can be recuperated and to enable us to continue the project for 2005.
RDC:
Just a date for you to remember, as required by the articles of assioation which it states that three weeks notice has to be given for a public AGM of the Roundstone Development Community Council, so the date is set for the 29th November in the Community Hall 8pm for the AGM and the agenda will be posted on the community board, and also the Roundstone Development Council elections for 2005 are also coming up.
