Roundstone News 22nd November 04
As Ann mentioned last week on the Roundstone news there were eleven young people from Roundstone for the Debs night last Friday which started in Clifden in Guys, so as I new all the Roundstone lot, without hesitating I was quite determined to meet up with them in Clifden as it would be the first time for me to witness an occasion like this, and oh boy it was great to be there, just for the chat to see all the boys in their tuxedos and girls in their long dresses, because we are so used to seeing them in jeans and trainers etc, however meeting up with the some what proud parents, cameraís flashing, the whole atmosphere was electric, and whatís more I thought chivalry was dead, on the contrary flowers and chocolates were being presented to the ladies from the lads and in some cases you could see the lads with some sort of relief to be relieved of having to carry the flowers around. However they all looked great and during the course of the evening talking to some of the troops I had no idea what an effort had been made for them to prepare for the Debs night, what with all the fund raising etc and really all I could say was, hey its just once in a life time for you have fun, go for it and I gather they did.
You will find some photos, on the website menu ìYouthî the website menu again go to event photos, ìDebs Night 18th Novî

Residence Association:
Some weeks ago I spoke about the up grading of the Fair Green and the painting of the Senior Citizens houses, well its still on going, thanks to the FAS lads, work is progressing very well, the reason why I am bring an update on this project, the Fair Green Residence have formed a Residence Association, with the idea to work as a group to care take the Fair Green.
Ann Delapp was elected Chairperson, Ruth Fulman, Treasurer and Caroline king as Secretary, with Committee members, Pious Delapp, who inserdentally will head the maintance of the grounds, Carol and John Sheridan, Jackie King and Susan Quinn-Collet.
Its great to have this association, as it becomes another arm of the Development Council.

Engagement:
Our congratulations to Noel Linnane and Jeannie Hasinecz have become engaged and hope to be married some time next year in the autumn of 05, actually its quite interesting, Jeannie is originally from the states, her first visit to Roundstone came just after the film that was filmed in Roundstone, you remember the ìMatch Makerî, well she came to Roundstone/ Ballinagra, looking for photographs and a copy of the script etc, and it was in Roundstone Jeannie and Noel met, just like the movie, If any body knows the story, its quite a coincidence, American lady comes to Roundstone on a mission and falls for an Irishman, and marries him, so the story went.
Anyway good luck you guys for the future.

While I think about it on the same sort of track Ann Conneelys son Joseph reached his 21st on Saturday 2oth November, so we would like to wish him a very happy birthday, luckily I do not have to sing it, I gather he had already a lot of others to do that for him

Shore Line Fishing:
Yesterday and Saturday, there was the all Ireland shore fishing competition, which was held on Gurteen Beach, this also included a competition for the under 16ís.
I was talking to Fergus Collins who is a Galway man, and is the captain for Connaucht and general organiser, Fergus brings small groups of fisherman to Roundstone four or five times a year, and as it was the all Ireland, with eighty competitors from all over the country, it was Round stoneís turn to host the competition.
Fergus was also telling me that interestingly there was not enough accommodation available for some of the competitors, as a result some left, but he had to admit he was given some numbers, some thing is wrong some where, anyway I told him about the
www.roundstone-connemara.com website, which by the way is now finished, after working on it through the weekend, with a friend of mine called Robert Bate, Robert is very talented up and coming web design

TG4:
Sadly Mary Joe Worley did not make the final in the TG4 competition, it had a lot to do with the voting system, unknown to us and to herself the first seven weeks voting was missed, there really was not enough information as to how the voting system works, however all was not lost for Mary Joe, she has gained a lot of experience, she has received a lot of exposure, and in fact I gather a few contracts have come her way, I have the feeling we will be hearing a lot more about her in the future. Any way good effort all around, well done Mary Joe

On a sadder note, on behalf of myself and of course the community we would like express our condolences to the King family on the death of Bid King.

Well thatís all from me for this week, thank you for reading, and I will be back next week for the next few weeks as Ann is off to the states for three weeks, lucky thing.
