Roundstone News 28 th March 2005
I had no real idea how many actually reads the Roundstone news on the website until the e-mails that I have received lately, not just abroad but here in Ireland.
So sorry, I am a little late with the website news from Roundstone, owing to being away with the Youth Club.
I have received some wonderful cards and E, mails from some young members of our community that are travelling for a year around various parts of the world, their contact with Roundstone is their strength through the website, its really working, so troops where ever you are keep checking in, and between Ann Conneely's news and mine we will keep you informed.
Easter Weekend:
This must have been the busiest Easter Weekend we have ever witnessed, the warm weather played a very big part, and people just took to the beaches for all the aquatic sports.
On the other hand it was also quite noticeable that the Hotels and the B/Bs were down abit, but all the self-catering houses were all taken. The Self-catering seems to be the new trend for home entertainment, one wonders could this trend be the result of the smoking ban in the bars or the tightening of the drinking and driving laws.
Youth Club:
Members of the youth Club came back from, Noyelles sous Lens in France (Roundstones twin) late on Saturday night, after a week of activities, starting off on the night of our arrival straight to a football match in Lens with Lens verses Bordeaux.
Lens won much to the delight of the gang, I must say it was the first time for me to go to a live match, it was quite something.
We had two days in Paris with the climbing of the Eiffel Tower, a tour around Monmartre and the Place de Concorde and then on to a Science Museum etc.
We were given from the Mayor of Noyelles Sous Lens a self-catering house to ourselves where we all had to pull together, i.e. do our own shopping and cooking etc, we had some surprising results, it worked extremely well, I think everybody enjoyed themselves, but there is no place like home. It was also discussed during our stay with the Mayor of Noyelles sous lens that perhaps it is time now we should take some of the parents out, to have an insight of what the town represents re youth.
Easter Egg Hunt;
The annual Easter egg hunt took place in the gardens of Errisbeg House with 60 kids, ten up from last year, and a good few more adults. The running of this event is very much helped by some of the youth club members, its also an opportunity to raise a few bob for the club, we just left a donation box lying around which raised €150.
A glass of wine for the adults, so everybody had some fun.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that donated extra eggs and who put a few bob in the donation Box.
Broadband:
At a recent Meeting with the board of Connemara Tourism, with a guest speaker from the Galway County Council, it was stated that Roundstone were in the fore front in bringing broadband to a possible reality as we have shown positive interest, so there fore our public meeting which will be held on the 11 th April re this project is a must. We hope to bring in Cashel and Ballyconneely under the umbrella of broadband banner
