Roundstone News 6th June 2005
There was one event that I Forgot to mention last Monday, Nicky Griffen wrote about his now annual running race
O’Dowds Race Sunday 29th May
For the 2nd year the running of the O’Dowds 5 mile race, organised by the Southwell Running club from Nottingham, took place yesterday.
55 runners took part in the race, which went from O’Dowds Bar to a point in Inishnee and back again.
The Galway city harrier’s team, who had 15 runners competing, took most of the honours in both the men and women’s competitions.
Ivan Egan was the fastest overall winner with a time of 27mins and 57secs. Coleman Greene was the best of the local competitors by finishing in 11th place with a time of 32 mins.
A memorable day was completed with music and food and partying for many hours into the night.
Then a message from John Cummins who is chairman of the Southwell running club to say thank you to all at O’Dowds for their kind sponsorship of the race and for the t-shirts that were given out to all the runners who took part.
Thanks also to Coleen Greene who organised the runners from the Galway city harriers Athletics club to run in Connemara
Children’s Fun Run:
Was held yesterday with a really good turn out of kids, a little on the damp side but it certainly it did not dampen their spirits, the overall male winner was youth club member Morgan Mannion and female winner Anne O’Neill and B.Conneely, and second came young Connor O’Malley and third came young Fergal McDonagh, there were other categories for example Bridie Devan
(Senior Citizen) Michael Mahon (Dad) just to name a few Then out of the classes, 5th Class: Ian McDonagh, 4th Class: Rebecca Conneely, 3rd Class: Rachel O’Donnell, 1st Class: Kieran Conneely and infants Leona King.
The bouncing castle and a beat on the street, had to be cut short because of rain, however all in all they had a bit of fun.
I would like to thank all the members of the Roundstone youth club, who turned out to help with various jobs and of course Marie Feeney and Kathleen de Courcey, nice one everybody.

Starraic:
The Nick Hitchcock exhibition that was held on Saturday in the starraic Gallery was a success, very unusual installation of photographs of doors but pleasing to the eye, this exhibition will remain hanging until the 22nd June, its certainly worth a visit.
Ailbhe Creane:
To express her appreciation to all those who helped her to fund raise for her Ethiopian project to go out to Ethiopia as a volunteer worker teaching English for a minimum of three months.
For example a great night was held in Ryan’s Bar last Saturday where the Kegs played, with their new songs and in fact had not played for some months as a group, any way Ailbhe wanted to thank specially the band as they played for free, there was also a raffle where there were some great prizes which were generously sponsored by the local business in Roundstone and Clifden, O’Dowds, Gannon Sports Noreen’s hairdressers Lowry’s, Malachy Bodhran, Stanley’s, Heirs, the Celtic Shop O’Dalaighs Jewellers, Celtic shop and to all those that gave prizes privately and of course to Dannagh, Ritchie and Seamus from Ryan’s Bar whom without their generosity the night would not have happened, also my thanks to my parents Joe and Betty Creane other members of the family and friends. I will never forget what people have done for me, by wishing me luck and supporting the cause, the preparation for Africa has been an amazing experience, its hard to put into words, but I am certainly overwhelmed, so on that note thanks again to everyone who helped out.
So all we can say is good luck Ailbhe, Ailbhe takes up her position in Ethiopia at the end of June.
Well that’s all from me, just to wish Ann Conneely a Happy Birthday.
Also to wish all the troops luck to those who are doing their Junior Cert and the leaving Cert.
