Happy New Year Everybody

Well, we are well into the New Year and I hope everybody had a good Christmas and saw the New Year in in a good style, and your new years resolutions are not giving you too much trouble.

As we speak the RDC committee are in session so to speak to plan projects for 2006, and to elect a new chairman of the development council as Martin J. Conneely has stepped down due to work commitments, pity really Martin has put in a lot of thought and work into the development council for the good of the village for some years now, however at least he will remain on the committee.

The marina committee are also meeting tonight to hopefully speed up the Roundstone Marina project.

GCC:
To kick start the New Year for Roundstone the Galway County Council have just allocated €2000 as part of the anti litter awareness campaign to the RDC, this money will be to implement a“Please Keep Roundstone a Litter free zone” sign either in wood or stone so there is quite a lot of work to do as the sign will have to be completed before March so as to tie in with the tidy Towns Competition.

DVD Beach Project:
You may remember some weeks back I mentioned about the Gurteen and Dogs Bay Beach Project DVD, well I just want to mention you can now download it onto your computer from the Roundstone Website, just bare in mind that unless you have an ISDN line or Broadband, to down load on a dial up connection could be very slow.

Johnny’s Gym:
The new Roundstone gym is now officially open, since the opening reception last Thursday.

John King of Ervallagh:
Our condolences to Joe and Mike King and the immediate family on the death of their brother John King from Ervallagh who died in England, who was eventually brought home to be buried yesterday in Gurteen.

John was always referred to as the “Gentle Giant” and I am told that while living in England his doors were always open to any visitor from the west, I really never new John, but new of him, he will be missed by a good few members of the community. May he rest in peace?

Christmas Lights:
I would just like to end off by thanking, Chris Conneelly, Bernard King, Nicky Griffin, Paddy King, Neil McKay and specially Sean Burke for his Hi-Mac for their help in dismantling the Christmas lights from the village, and to thank the lotto for picking up the tab for the new bulbs and eventually the payment of the Electricity Bill.
