Roundstone News 4 th April 2005

Good evening everybody and welcome to the Connemara Community Radio, this Richard de Stacpoole bring you some news and updates from Roundstone.

There is not a lot of news as such this week, but there are quite a lot of events happening within the village for the next two weeks, of which you will possible need a pen to write down the various dates that I will give you in a minute.

Youth Club:

8 members of the youth Club with myself and Geraldine came back from, Noyelles sous Lens in France (Roundstones twin) last Saturday evening, after a week of some what hectic activities, starting off on the night of our arrival we went straight to a football match in Lens with Lens verses Bordeaux, which I have to say I was dreading at the time, unfounded dread.

Lens won the match much to the delight of the gang, amazing atmosphere with 40,000 people it was the first time for me to go to a live match, it was quite something, and in fact I really enjoyed it, because the guys were explaining to me the rules and the situations that accrued.

We had two days in Paris of course we went to the Eiffel Tower, using the stairs of course, thank god on the second half to the top there was a lift, then we had a tour around Monmartre and the Place de Concorde and then on to a Science Museum, there was lots more to do but it would take too long to talk it through.

We were given from the Mayor of Noyelles Sous Lens a self-catering house to ourselves where we just all had to pull together, i.e. do our own shopping and cooking etc, we had some surprising results, it worked extremely well, every thing was so much easier as the troops are all very good friends and get on well together and so I would like to think that everybody enjoyed themselves, Geraldine Coyne (my other female adult leader) the mother figure was a god send as a result there was no bad humour, no mood swings, just solid good humour, for me it was just a real pleasure to be with them.

We also discussed with the Mayor of Noyelles sous lens during our stay the possibility that we should take the parents out to NSL, to have an insight of what the town represents re their and our youth, funnily enough just this evening I received an E.mail from the Mayor saying that the parents would be made very welcome, but that it would have to be some time in the autumn, we will see if some how we can make this come to pass.

Father Breen:

Has asked me to put over the air a mass time table to mourn the Holy Father, Wednesday 6 th April 6.30 pm in St Bridget's Church, Ballinafad and on the same day, in Recess at 8pm.

Then on the Thursday 7 th April in the Cashel Church with the school children at 1.45pm. There may be a slight chance that this mass could be deferred either to a time change or the Friday, anyhow check with father Breen his telephone number is 095 34605.

Caeli:

Chris and James de Courcey have also asked me to let everybody now that there will be a Caeli on the Sunday of the 10 th April 10pm in the upstairs room of Keoghs in Ballyconneely, with Liam and Michael to end of the winter sessions, light refreshments will be available, also there might be a small charge, but again you can check should you wish to do so with Chris 35803.

Forum Outing:

As part of Forum / Cathy Keane a field trip to Leitrim has been arranged for members of various Community Development working groups from all over Connemara for a fact finding mission for two days departing Thursday returning on Friday of this week.

The idea is that from all walks of community working groups with their projects, to look at similar projects in the north and to exchange ideas.

Martin J Conneely and hopefully myself will go on this field trip to Leitrim as representatives of the Roundstone Development Council, and possibly bring some ideas back that could possibly be implemented here in Roundstone

There is quite an Itinerary worked out for the two days with the view to talk with other groups in Leitrim, and to see an IT Training Centre in Ballagh, Organic Centre and to meet up with the Glenfarne Development Group, an Art Centre and to meet the people of a small village called Kiltyclogher, which is a border village before Glenfarne, should be an interesting few days, we will report back on that trip in due course.

Brendan O'Malley:

Just a reminder that every First Tuesday of the month Brendan O'Malley i.e. tomorrow will be in the community Office from 11.30 am to 1.30pm, Brendan is the Local employment Mediator, giving a service dealing with families who have a farm, the under employed and the unemployed. And while we are on the subject of farms so to speak, tomorrow night at 8pm in Peacocks Hotel leagasc are holding an information meeting re

"Single Payment" and it is recommended that all farmers and Landowners should attend.

Also on the same evening in the Westwood Hotel at 8pm the Connemara Pony society are hosting an Information seminar re registration and entry into the stud book

Car Boot Sale:

I received a circular that was addressed to all community Groups through RDC re a car boot sale on the 23 rd April will be held in the Mart in Clifden its is a bit of a fund raiser for the Ballyconneely and Clifden Senior citizens group, the admission fee is €10, or if you pre book now it will cost €8, any way I will put the poster in the community board with all the details.

Birthday Wishes:

This I had to find out not twice but three times on Galway bay Fm, and through the grape vine birthday wishes for Josephine Mannion, who hails from Murvey, I felt that Galway bay can not possibly have it all their own way, since the other members of the family had birthday wishes last month from the community Radio, so therefore we can't leave the mammy out, not quite sure whether it was yesterday or today, anyway happy Birthday from myself Josephine and believe me from the village and from your great family, Lorraine, Theresa, Rosie, Lucy and Joseph and husband Josie and I am intrigued about the surprise that is being arranged for you I wonder what the surprise is?, or is just it the thrill or shock of another year older, but do not worry Josephine one never asks a lady her age, I will find out quietly, just have fun, knowing you having fun will not be a problem for you.

Births:

Congratulations to Vincent and Sharon Delapp (daughter of Pious and Anne) on the birth of their baby daughter now known as Sara, Jane she was born on Wednesday 30 th March.

So that is something nice to end off

Well that's all from me for this week, have a good one and do not forget it's the recycling bags that goes out tomorrow for collection.
