Roundstone News 6th February 2012

A meeting concerning the septic tanks: Was held in the Roundstone Community Hall on Thursday last and it brought a lot of concerned home owners out on that cold night. Padraic Conneely

Rossville in South Connemara opened the debate by bringing us up to speed on where things are at the moment. A group from Claddaduff Ann Marie Mc Laughlin, Liam Allen and Jack Walsh & Paul Hernon, who are some of the main organisers of this campaign in the Connemara area also attended as well as Sean Kyne from FG, Thomas Welby Independent, and Councillor Eileen Mannion and ex Councillor Josie Conneely. Michael Reynolds of RDC chaired the meeting. Where as a lot of the Roundstone residents who live outside the village feared of yet another expense on them as well as the household charge. The people of the village are more interested in a Treatment plant which we have been campaigning for, for the past 20 years. The result from the meeting was yet another trip to Dublin and this time hopefully all Rural Ireland will respond. Padraic asked the people of Roundstone to support them when this time came and to make that trip to Dublin with them. You can sing on and join this petition from the comfort of your home by logging on to www.mynativeland.info and it is also on face book called the Connemara protest. Bridie & Pat Davis Innishnee were amongst the last group that attended in Dublin and Jim Mc Eleney also of Innishnee was amongst the marchers in Galway some weeks ago.

Events Committee We have already mentioned that an events committee has been set up in Roundstone to try and have a structure in place for the year To entertain and accommodate both the visitors and the locals. The officers were selected at the last meeting on the Wednesday night with Johnny Sheehan as Chairperson Patrick McDonagh as Sec. and Paul Delapp as Treasurer. It is wonderful to see new faces on the committee and people who are dedicated to the improvement of Roundstone and working alongside our regular events and helping if needed. Lots of great ideas were trashed out such as badminton, indoor soccer re activating the youth club with more enfaces on sport. The benefit of having such a fine hall and what we can do to utilise it and man it more. The officers will meet with RDC to bring them up to date on the ideas and to get their approval as RDC holds the lease of the hall.

Murder Mystery As a trial run for future such events a Murder Mystery Dinner was held in Errisbeg House with host Richard on Friday last. He had 10 guests all dressed in the appropriate costumes to suit the era and we all had to act out the scene of the murder and try to detect who amongst us was the murderer. It was a huge success, great fun and an ideal night out for a group of people who would be interested in something similar.

A Valentines Dinner & Dance will take place next Saturday night in Roundstone Contact Ann or Barbara for tickets. Music with Feichin Michael & Michael Connolly and singer, Olive.

Failte Ireland held a two half day courses in Roundstone last Monday & Tuesday were well attended with 20 for the place on a plate and 10 for the hospitality day. It is good to see the Community Hall being put into good use.
