Roundstone News 25th April 2010

I apologise for not brining you some news last Monday, it was such a hectic day as was for Ann.

Easter Weekend:

I think in all my years, I have never seen such a crowd in Roundstone on an Easter Period, mind you I suppose, Easter being later this year made a difference and the great weather, I am told that such a crowd, almost cleaned out the restaurants and hotel’s of food, any what ever it was, its a great boost moral wise for the forth coming season for Roundstone, and we are still fairly busy in the village

Easter church Ceremonies:

It has to be said that Father Jarleth, did a wonderful job with all the various ceremonies relating to Easter, particuley with Palm Sunday, Holy week, the Dawn Mass on the Gurteen Cemetery, we never expected such a crowd, the Dawn Mass will be held in rotation to the other parishes for the next few years. Easter Sunday was packed, Jarleth gave a very meaningful Mass, and to the extent he was given a round of applause for all his work during that time. Jarleth may be from the old school so to speak, but he made us all think the true meaning of Easter, well he did for me any way. He has earned a well deserved rest for a few days.

Easter Egg Hunt:

We had a very, I would like to think a successful Easter Egg Hunt at Errisbeg house, with a record amount of little people, 84 children to be precise. Over the last few years the hunt was only in a certain part of the garden, this year it was literally all over the whole garden, with chocolate Rabbits peering out of the tree’s and hedges and the box’s hanging in the trees, so they all had to look up and on the ground to find them. These little guys are so professional it did not take them long to find them, it was such fun, and then we had three different levels for age groups with the piñata’s. The adults had a glass of wine near the end of the hunt just to thank them for their help with the troops. There are so many people to thank for the extra eggs, their contributions cash wise for the youth club, the lotto, Mary McDonagh for her lovely knitted chickens which always goes down so well for the under 3’s.

All in all a smashing day enhanced by the good weather. So thank you to one and all. Some photos are up on the Roundstone website under photo events

Connemara Pony Registration:

Registration of the two year old fillies was held on the show grounds up Farrell’s road on Thursday, a turn out of fourteen ponies.

Annie Ridge:

Our condolences to the Ridge family of the parting of Annie, mother to Jimmy and David of Dolan Town, Annie was buried on Gurteen cemetery Wednesday. May she rest in peace.
