Monty Halls great Irish escapes at Errisbeg House 11th August 2011
We had a great turn out at Errisbeg House, for the showing of the first episode of the BBC 2 programme “Monty Hall’s Great Irish Escapes” which was well received much to the delight of our visitors and locals.
The idea of showing the first episode of Monty s great escape here at Errisbeg is so that people who can not get BB2, luckily I went digital two weeks ago in preparation of this evening. There will be six episodes, showing each week on Thursday’s.
A quick run down, Monty and his crew, James Hemming camera man and director, Producer Martin Phailthorpe, and Lorna Hill locations and Lorna at times took the role of sound man. The crew came to Roundstone in 2010 for a period of 6 months to log the local characters and film the environment all around Connemara working with various university’s and with the IWDG (Irish Whale and Dolphin Group), Monty is a marine biologist, ex solider, diver and highly qualified and an extraordinary Gung Ho character, as might be said of his Dog Ruben, much to the annoyance of Monty, Rube’s reputation is more well know than Monty’s is Ha! Ha!.Ha!
We did not have the time to go into his full CV so to speak to all the attendee’s, the episodes to come will speak for itself, also my thanks to Tigress productions they have sent over some books that Monty wrote of his west of Ireland adventures, and the people he met within the 6 months in Roundstone, some of whom you will certainly recognise. These books are now on sale at the stable gallery, at Errisbeg House @ €12.00, Tigress productions they also sponsored the liquid refreshments for the public viewing at the Stable Gallery, Errisbeg House and certainly we thank Tigress for that. After we watched the programme Monty had asked me to read out a message from him and his crew.
Monty Hall & Crew:
"There have been good escapes, there have been great escapes, but there has only been one Roundstone! A million thanks from all the crew. We sincerely hope you enjoy the show, and that it does justice to your extraordinary community. We miss it all very much, and will return one day for sure. The hospitality you showed us is in the finest of Irish traditions, and is a credit to Roundstone and to Connemara.
All the very best from Monty, Martin, James, and Tam (oh, and Reubs!)"
All the best, Monty.
Martin Phailthorpe: (Producer)
Hi Richard - hope you all have a ball this evening. Can I add my huge thanks to Monty’s? It goes without saying that without the immense support and enthusiasm of everyone in the Roundstone community this would not have been the success it is - the Roundstone village is getting good press over here, and I hope the benefits will be enjoyed in months to come!
We will now have a repeat performance every Thursday in showing of the six episodes of Monty Halls great Irish escape in the stable Gallery 7pm for the second episode at 8pm until the end of the series, and all are most welcome to join me.
Mass on the Pier:
As part of the feast of the Assumption mass was to be held on the old quay this morning, but come 11am the heavens opened after all the preparations were completed, so had to dismantle and back to the church. Oh well that’s life.
Condolences;
Our condolences to Rodney Thompson, known locally as the Hermit on the passing of his father on Wednesday. May he rest in peace.
50/50:
Saturday night’s winner of the 50/50 draw held in Ryan’s Bar was Pat McCann gaining €420; this is his second time to win it. Bob Woods got the Dinner for two, all he needs now is a date, and plans are afoot to find him an escort. Next week the Draw will be held in the Shamrock Bar.
